Trip Summary

Provence Wine Tour

If you are looking to relax, unwind and taste superb wines in a beautiful and romantic setting, the Essential Break at Château de Mazan is the trip for you. The 4* Château de Mazan is the former residence of the Marquis de Sade, an 18th Century French aristocrat, politician and writer who was infamous for his outrageous and libertine lifestyle. His stunning Château is an ideal destination for a serene and pampered stay and an ideal base from which to discover the delights of the Southern Rhône and Provençal wines.

After checking in and enjoying a peaceful evening at the Château, a pre-booked a pre-paid taxi will escort you between each destination on day two. During the course of the day, you will visit two premium wine-making Châteaux. You will firstly be welcomed as the guests of a family-run winery, situated at the foot of the Ventoux mountains. Following a full tour of the estate, seeing first-hand the fascinating wine-making process from vine to bottle, an extensive tasting session will ensue. A picnic lunch will have been prepared for you here and this can be enjoyed in a picturesque spot in the Château’s grounds. The afternoon will be spent having a tour of the estate and cellars of a second wine-maker, whose historical Château dates back to the 9th Century. Your visit will conclude with tastings of the domaine’s Côtes du Ventoux wines. You will be taken back to the Château at the end of the day and in the evening, a three course dinner with drinks will be served in the Château’s bistronomic restaurant.

For those staying for a third night, you will be met at the Château by an English-speaking specialist guide on the morning of day three, for a full day transported tour of the world-famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. You will start by looking at the unusual terroir that is responsible for the ultra-ripe grapes that come from its vines and will then visit the cuverie of a wine maker, to understand their wine making philosophy. The visit will conclude with tastings of their award-winning wines. Following the morning’s activities, you will be welcomed to dine in a quintessentially French bistrot for lunch. In the afternoon, you will then continue your tour, visiting a further two Châteauneuf-du-Pape wineries. You will be taken back to the Château at the end of the day.
