This four day break will introduce you to the wines of both Porto and the Douro, staying in both regions. Walking between each destination in the city of Porto, you will visit the famous Sandeman Port wine lodge, which boasts magnificent views. Here, your English-speaking guide will accompany you through the lodges full of casks of ageing Porto wine and your visit will conclude with a tutored tasting of five ports; a White, a Ruby Reserve, a Tawny Reserve, a ten year old Tawny and the Vau vintage. Also included in the package is a 50 minute Douro river cruise in a Rabelo boat. Rabelo boats were historically used to transport Port wine barrels from the inner Douro region to Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine cellars are located.
In the evening, you will be welcomed to dine in the fantastic DOP restaurant. The restaurant is headed by celebrated chef Rui Paula and is situated in a beautiful, historical building. Portuguese cuisine is truly delicious and you will sample many of the region’s delicacies on your trip. Your gastronomic Portuguese dinner will be accompanied by Douro white wine, Dão red wine, Port Wine, water and coffee.
For the one night stay in the Douro, take an hour-long train ride from Porto São Bento station to Régua (Tickets can be purchased directly at the station for around eight Euros per person). Here, you will be transferred to the family-owned Quinta da Pacheca that dates back to the 15th century. The family has remained respectful towards the traditional wine-making style of Douro and Port wines and you will see that their vineyards are an average 40 years old.
During your stay, you will have a tour of the estate to understand more of their philosophy. In the afternoon, take a short walk to a neighbouring boutique producer of Douro wines, who mature their Port in casks for private consumption only. This family-managed estate is a former monastery that was founded in the 12th century before the nation was formed. A member of the family will accompany you on a tour of the quinta, which will conclude with a tasting session of wines and ports. Upon your return to Pacheca, you will enjoy a 3 course dinner served alongside a selection of the 5 of the estate’s wines and ports.
On the final day, you will be transferred back to Régua station in time for your return train to Porto.

Travel between November and the end of March and save £45 per person at the Grande Hotel do Porto and Hotel Teatro, £40 per person at Carris Porto, £65 per person at Infante de Sagres and £125 per person at the Yeatman Wine Hotel.
At the Infante de Sagres, a smaller discount of £15 per person applies for travel in April.

There are direct flights from London Gatwick (Easyjet and TAP Portugal), London Stansted (Ryanair) and Liverpool (Ryanair) from the UK to Oporto airport. Grape Escapes is ATOL registered, number 10831 and we would be happy to book your flights at cost, however a booking fee of £25 per person applies.
The airport is situated around 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre and there are always taxis waiting at arrivals. Alternatively, the metro will take you to the city centre in 30 minutes and costs around 1.50 Euros per person for a single ticket.
Return private airport transfers cost from £58 per person. Please contact us for prices, which are dependent on the number of passengers.

To secure your booking, a deposit of £100 per person is required (or 20% if the total price of your trip exceeds £500 per person). Your remaining balance will then be due 60 days before you travel.
