The Burgundy Three Night Wine Tasting Tour
This three night trip allows you to experience Burgundy at its best. Your guide will accompany you on two fascinating days of tours, taking you to the town of Beaune and the famous Puligny Montrachet and through the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. As well as having the opportunity to taste a range of superb wines from across the region, you will enjoy fine Burgundian cuisine at two top quality estates.
The Grape Escapes Burgundy wine tasting tour includes three nights’ accommodation in your chosen Burgundy hotel, plus two full day tours - one in Beaune, Puligny Montrachet and the Côte de Nuits, and one in Savigny Les Beaune, Aloxe Corton and the Côte de Beaune. This year’s Premium Burgundy tour will be as follows:
Friday
Our Burgundy tour will start at the very beginning of the journey for all wines, in the vineyard. Having travelled south from Beaune to the famous village of Puligny Montrachet, you will start the tour as the guests of one of the biggest names in the village. The experience with them will include an hour spent learning about the work in the vineyard before returning to their winery in the centre of the village where you will enjoy a tour of their estate. Following the tour, the group will transfer to their tasting rooms where a broad tasting of 10 wines from the Cote de Beaune (including 1er cru wines from Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Meursault and Volnay and a grand cru Corton Charlemagne) will be offered alongside a delightful 3 course lunch. The owners and staff are very gracious hosts and the wine tastings and meal always prove both enjoyable and enlightening.
After lunch, you will back head towards the town of Beaune, the undisputed capital of Burgundy wines, where you will visit one of the many wine merchants who are based in the town. You will have the opportunity to explore a little of the many miles of cellars that stretch beneath the town before tasting a few of the wines from the region.
For the final visit of the day, you will head towards Dijon to a wine estate which straddles the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. This estate has focused on delivering high quality wines and their hard work is being recognised by many of the world’s foremost commentators, who are awarding the estate with consistently high ratings. The Manager of the estate will lead the tour through the vineyards and the winery, before a final tasting of their wines from across the premium villages of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.
Saturday
You will start the day in the village of Savigny Les Beaune with a visit to a specialist Burgundy wine merchant with, which boasts a broad range of quality wines across all a diverse range of price ranges. The introduction to the lesser known wines of Burgundy will be at the hands of the owners. In their intimate cellars they will introduce you to the peculiarities of the Burgundy wine trade, the role of the negociant, and provide a first hand account of the Hospice auction. You will enjoy a tasting of a few of their wines, carefully selected to provide a benchmark for good value Burgundy across a range of prices. It is likely that you will be able to taste one of the Hospice 2010 wines direct from the barrel.
Your day will continue with a visit to a wine maker in the quaint village of Aloxe-Corton, the only village in Burgundy to boast both red and white Grand Cru wines. You will see their historic cellars, and end your visit to them with a three course lunch accompanied by eight of their wines (including five Grand Crus and two Premier Crus).
For the final visit of the day, you will head back towards Beaune to a top quality producer situated in one of the premium villages of the Côte de Nuits (often Vosne Romanee or Gevrey Chambertin). This final visit will include a tour of the cuverie and tastings of at least four of their highly regarded red wines.
