Alsace Wine Tasting Trips
Flexible Alsace Breaks
These packages are designed with total flexibility in mind. Choose between a two and three night stay in the beautiful wine-making village of Riquewihr. The tours offer the opportunity to visit some of the region’s most prestigious wineries as well as a small, family-run estate, together with one or two lunches or dinners.
For those looking for a mid-week or weekend break that offers a good introduction to the various tastes and styles of Alsace wines available, these tours may be the answer. Everything is within walking distance in the village, meaning that you will not need to drive between destinations during your stay.
The Standard Alsace Break
The two night Standard Alsace break includes:
- Two nights’ bed and breakfast in your choice of Hôtel de la Couronne and Hôtel le Schoenenbourg. Please see our Alsace Hotels for further information about these hotels.
- A tour and tastings at the world-famous estate of Dopff Irion. Dopff Irion’s vines are situated on Riquewihr’s best hillsides and enjoy the very best aspects. Over 10 of the estate’s hectares are classified Grand Cru. Your guide will accompany you on a full tour of the estate, explaining the domaine’s vineyards and growing techniques. It is said that Réné Dopff was the first wine-maker to have faith in the concept of terroir and the estate today receives countless prestigious prizes for its superb wines. You will then be taken on a tour of Dopff Irion’s cellars, concluding your visit with a tasting session.
- A visit to a smaller, family-run producer in the village, who adopt “soft” methods of growing, close to natural cycles. Using homemade compost as fertiliser and other natural products such as biological insecticides, their aim is to achieve clean, concentrated grapes. You will be shown the estate owner’s vinification techniques, which he has honed over the past 20 years, before enjoying tastings of the domaine’s wines.
- A traditional three course tasting lunch or dinner in an Alsatian winstub, accompanied by a Cremant and a local Riesling. Meaning “wine lounge,” winstubs epitomise the Alsatian way of life. Originally rooms which were open to the public where wi ne-grower’s could sell surplus wines, winstubs are convivial, country-style restaurants with red-checked table cloths and wooden tables, where diners enjoy carafes of wine accompanied by small, simple dishes. Here, you will have the opportunity to sample regional specialities, such as Sauerkraut, Baeckaoffa and tartes flambées.
The Standard Plus Alsace Break
In addition to the Standard package, the Standard Plus package includes an extra night’s accommodation and a visit to a third wine-maker in the village. This prestigious estate has been owned by a passionate wine-growing family since 1680 and your guide will explain to you this domaine’s traditional wine-growing and vinification methods, such as their extended maceration on fine lees and slow fermentations. Following your tour, you will taste five of the estate’s wines, accompanied by Kougelhof- a delicious Alsatian brioche, filled with dry fruits.
Also included in the Standard Plus Alsace break will be in a four course gourmet dinner in one of the village’s top restaurants, accompanied by premium Alsace wines, water and coffee.
Please see our dates and prices page for prices, which depend on which accommodation option you prefer.
